HagsHarlotsHeroines

Laura Wilkinson lives by the sea in a yet-to-be-chic area of Brighton.

Laura was raised in North Wales. As a child she read often and widely, and told many tales but never got as far as writing any of them down, unless required to do so by Miss Logan, her English teacher. After school, the delights of Manchester beckoned and here she studied for a BA in Literature, after which she headed to the capital. In London she worked as an actress, and when she hit 30something, and hadn’t won an Oscar, she re-trained as a journalist.  Recently she has been an editor, copywriter, and mother to two small boys. It was during the bleak times as an out-of-work actress that Laura first brandished a pen and began to scribble poems and short stories.  They were terrible but they were a start, of sorts.

Laura is a founding member of hagsharlotsheroines.com and it was during the autumn of 2002 that she, along with her co-conspirators, conceived the idea behind this online creative writing project. Laura is the current editor and compiles the monthly e-zine as well as contributing features and reviews. Like thousands of working mothers Laura finds it tricky to carve out time for herself. She meant to begin writing fiction in earnest after hagsharlotsheroines was born, but the beast she’d helped to create needing feeding and she only got around to developing her own fiction last year.

Laura has written a selection of short stories, and she is working on a novel. Her work has been published in ABCtales magazine, New Blood Books, WriteSpace and Qarrtsiluni.
