HagsHarlotsHeroines

Press Releases

A vibrant new story telling site, hagsharlotsheroines.com, founded by former Mold residents Helen and Laura Wilkinson, launches on International Women's Day, March 8th.

In the march of history, the stories of women who pushed back the boundaries appear to make a somewhat ragged column. hagsharlotsheroines.com offers tales about some of history's more remarkable stragglers - groundbreaking gals who got lost upon the way - together with stories of legendary ladies and mythical mammas that you will no doubt have met before.

This year International Women's Day on March 8th pays tribute to women with careers of courage and hagsharlotsheroines.com salutes the women who, in one way or another, dared to assert their individuality and forge their own path.

"hagsharlotsheroines tells the tales of the famous, and not so famous, pioneering women from past to present who helped to shape the cultural landscape we now inhabit. We aim to entertain, inform and inspire others to seek out those hitherto unsung heroines (and hags and harlots) who lived life by their own rules and in so doing were catalysts for change. Every month we will post up a new story on the site and also send it to the inboxes of our members. We welcome feedback and, indeed, reader's own writing - there are many tales of fascinating women simply waiting to be told, many of whom no doubt hail from North Wales" comments Helen Wilkinson, co-founder of hagsharlotsheroines.com.

Laura and Helen grew up in Mold, attending Bryn Coch and Mold Alun before heading off to university. Helen was something of a star pupil, winning many awards, including the Daniel Owen prize for literature. Parents Marian and Mike Williams still live in the town.

Helen now lives in London and Laura is based in Brighton. hagsharlotsheroines is the fourth website Helen has been involved in setting up, after successful careers in television as a BBC producer and founder of independent think-tank, Demos where she developed a reputation as a leading social commentator on women's changing lives. Laura has worked as an actress in television and theatre and as a writer for many years. She currently combines caring for her two sons, Morgan and Cameron, with freelance writing work and, of course, hagsharlotsheroines. Helen and Laura, along with co-founder and writer Becky Bradford, also from Brighton, developed the idea of this website to share fascinating stories with as many people as possible, and to keep 'herstory' alive.
