We accept short stories and poems on any theme, in any genre. Our most important criteria is that it is writing of quality; innovative work that pushes the boundaries of short fiction and that it explores gender, identity and issues of particular importance for women, though not exclusively.
And given our herstory we are always interested in tales of great women from history, legend or myth. They can be based on famous queens, warriors and goddesses. We also want to encourage herstory from the ground up and encourage members to unearth and re-imagine the so-called "smaller" lives of lesser-known women. For example, you could write the story of someone local to where you live to feature in our Local Heroines section.
We accept writing from adults and children of all ages - and we don't expect you to be an established writer.
We reserve the right to edit stories before posting them onto this site. Please note that by submitting your work to us you are agreeing to both our Terms and Conditions including our copyright policy and our Privacy Statement. We request that you read these thoroughly before sending anything.
Finally, we suggest that you keep your stories to less than 3,500 words. However, there is no definitive length and longer stories will be added to this site if we think they are good.
